Hey, Everyone!!!

If you would like to have one or more of the resurrection talks below for your church, small group, or Bible study (if you have one of those), feel free to shoot me an email.

Family Picture

When I sent last month's email, I had recently completed a talk that gave a positive argument for the resurrection. Since then, I have completed two more talks, 'Can Other Theories Explain Away the Resurrection?' and 'Are There Good Scientific or Philosophical Objections to the Resurrection?'. I also prepared a sermon, 'The Resurrection in a Secular Age'. With the three resurrection talks and the one resurrection sermon, I am now in a good position to reach out to pastors and people who are in campus ministry and I now have something to offer to churchgoers or university students. I have already met with a number of pastors, and contacted different people who are in campus ministry. Given that not many pastors know who I am and that I am just starting out in this endeavor and don't have any books published, building such relationships will be a main way (if not the only way) to create opportunities for ministry at churches and universities. I'll keep developing talks as time goes on, but it's nice to have reached this point. If you were to put things in business terms, I feel as if I'm a business that actually has a product to offer now.

On the writing side, I submitted an idea for publication in the journal Philosophia Christi, which is one of the more well known philosophy of religion journals in Christian circles, and the proposal was accepted. That does not mean that I will get published in the journal, but it does mean I would be in stage two where I would complete the philosophical piece and submit it for consideration for publication. I need to get the submission completed by sometime around the beginning of November, which gives me less than a month and a half.

On the family side, Eric and Jill went on a vacation and left their youngest boy (my nephew Silas) here, and I had some great time here playing with Silas. We also had a family gathering here at home, and everyone was able to come.

PRAYER REQUESTS
1. Fundraising. Financially, one of the hardest seasons for a ministry is the beginning. Though there have been a number of one time gifts, Credible Faith has not had near the success that I would have liked in regard to monthly supporters. Please pray that God would bring monthly supporters alongside Credible Faith to help it get on a solid financial footing for it to be a ministry that lasts for decades. Credible Faith is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and donations are accordingly tax-deductible in the US as permitted by law.

2. Ministry Opportunities. Pray that doors would be opened for ministry in churches and on campuses and for relationships to be formed that would be mutually beneficial for ministry in those places.

Have a great month!!!

Sincerely,
Paul

Rational Reflections (R2) Blog

Quote of the Month

'Shall Men Pretend to Pleasure?', A Hymn of John Newton, author of lyrics of Amazing Grace:

Shall men pretend to pleasure
Who never knew the Lord?
Can all the worldling’s treasure
True peace of mind afford?
They shall obtain this jewel
In what their hearts desire,
When they by adding fuel
Can quench the flame of fire.

Till you can bid the ocean,
When furious tempests roar,
Forget its wonted motion,
And rage, and swell, no more:
In vain your expectation
To find content in sin;
Or freedom from vexation,
While passions reign within.

Come, turn your thoughts to Jesus,
If you would good possess;
‘Tis he alone that frees us
From guilt, and from distress:
While he, by faith, is present,
The sinner’s troubles cease;
His ways are truly pleasant,
And all his paths are peace.

Our time in sin we wasted,
And fed upon the wind;
Until his love we tasted,
No comfort could we find:
But now we stand to witness
His pow’r and grace to you;
May you perceive its fitness,
And call upon him too!

Our pleasure and our duty,
Though opposite before;
Since we have seen his beauty,
Are joined to part no more:
It is our highest pleasure,
No less than duty’s call;
To love him beyond measure,
And serve him with our all.
