Credible Faith with Dr. Paul Daniel Larson - December 2016

Hey, everyone!!!

A Quick Look (or Too Long, Didn't Read):
1. I am back from the trip to San Antonio for the Evangelical Theological Society Conference and Society of Biblical Literature conference, and much about the trip was great.
2. My home church will be supporting me or Credible Faith next year.
3. I have continued with planning and development work for the Credible Faith podcast.

Me with a dear couple, Piper, Wright, McGrath and some Brazilian friends

On November 14th, I went down to San Antonio, Texas, and in the ensuing days I attended some of the Evangelical Theological Society conference and some of the Society of Biblical Literature conference. I met quite a number of people, saw old friends and remade contact with acquiantances. Last year in Atlanta was my first time, and this year I continued my stint of academic and ministry tourism by going up and meeting people whom I have known about through one form or another but never met. Those people include (I list them here at least as a form of remembrance for me...a number of these people whom I have met this year or last year would not initially recognize me on a second encounter) E. P. Sanders, Matthew Kuiper (if that is the right spelling), Carol Kaminski, Nicholas Piotrowski, Karen Jobes, Michael F. Bird, Christopher Hays, Chris Keith, John Dominic Crossan, John Meier, Klyne Snodgrass, R. Steven Notley, Danny Zacharias, John Piper, Alister McGrath, Nijay Gupta, Mark Nanos, Hershel Shanks, A. Andrew Das, David DeSilva, Marianne Meye Thompson, Amy Van Dyke, Emanuel Tov (I went up and introduced myself and clasped his hand and asked if he was Tov (or if he was Emanuel Tov) (and he was), though he never said, I am Emanuel Tov), David Trobisch, Peter Gentry, Peter Gurry, Naomi Sheley, Craig A. Evans, Anthony Le Donne, Denis Salgado (a Brazilian!), Guillaume Bignon, Brian Renshaw, Daniel Janosik, Maurice Robinson, Craig Hazen, Scott Rae, and Mark Seifrid. On the way to the Evangelical Textual Criticism lunch, I met and talked with a pastor of a North Carolina church, and his church might have me come and give an apologetics conference next year. I was blessed to get to stay in the homes of Michael and Phyllis and Pat and Jeanne. It was a treat to have time getting to know both couples, even if it was for only a little bit of time.

In regard to life back in Illinois, I learned that my home church will be supporting me or Credible Faith starting next year at $50 a month. That is a huge blessing. Also, a big thanks to members of my church's missions board for their support. In the past, I have not done fundraising with churches (and thus have been more limited in fundraising success) given that I did not have a home church supporting me. Next year, I will be able to go to other churches and ask for their support, and the financial picture should be better when additional churches would be supporting Credible Faith.

Bible reading time with nephew(s) and niece

On the family side, my two nephews Toby and Hosea are on the same indoor soccer team (and my two nephews Sam and Joal are on a different soccer team together). My brother Eric is coach of the team, and given that he was gone, I had the opportunity to be coach for Toby and Hosea's indoor soccer game. Sometime when my sister Angela was here, I brought up what I had done with Toby and Joal when they lived here. I would read a Bible verse, Joal would read a verse, and I would read a verse phrase by phrase to Toby, who, not knowing how to read very well at the time, would repeat at least some of what I would say. Angela was fine with me doing something similar with her three oldest children - Sam, Mary, and Luke. Thus, on the first occasion, we went through at least almost all of the first two chapters of the Gospel of Matthew and their short term reward was "fruit" snacks.. Mary would read much of a verse, I would read a verse, Sam would read a verse, and I would read a verse phrase by phrase to Luke, who would repeat much of what I said after me. Second time we went through at least almost all of Matthew 3-5 and they again received "fruit" snacks. But the long term reward is that, if we make it to the end of the Gospel of Matthew, Uncle Paul would take them to Monkey Joe's.

PRAYER REQUESTS
1. Fundraising. Financially, one of the hardest seasons for a ministry is the beginning. Please pray that God would bring monthly supporters alongside Credible Faith. Credible Faith is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and donations are accordingly tax-deductible in the US as permitted by law.

2. Ministry Opportunities. Pray that doors would be opened for ministry in churches and on campuses and for relationships to be formed that would be mutually beneficial for ministry in those places.

Have a great month!!!

Sincerely,
Paul

He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.
